In my business I would prefer 6 months. I would never fire or push out
a 10 year employee (or even a 1 year employee early) I always appreciate the heads up and I won't penalize someone who's trying to work with me.
We try to be loyal and hope for loyalty back. If this is your org then perhaps give them courtesy of the same.
