The rest of this month BYU plays 3 road and 3 home games. If BYU goes 5-1 BYU will likely be treated as a lock for the NCAA tourney in projections.
If BYU plays like they did against ASU they will go 5-1 or 4-2 at worst. If they play like they did vs Houston they will likely go 2-4 or 1-5.
I just don't think the computers, pundits or fans have any real grasp of what this BYU team is yet. It is worse than BYU was at this time last year-that much I am comfortable believing. But whether or not this is a tournament team just isn't something any of us know yet. At times they have looked like one and other times they haven't looked like one.
On a final note- as somebody who has watched this play out for years I have learned that having a bad game against a team you would likely lose to no matter how well you played isn't always a bad thing. You are going to have bad games so the economist in me who seeks for the best application of scarce resources often thinks having a bad game on the road vs Houston is much better than on the road vs Utah or TCU-at least from a big season perspective.
Now learning to play against physical defense is another issue but I chose to go skiing Saturday if that gives you folks any idea of my faith in that issue. At present I am not likely to tune in when BYU goes to ISU in March.......
