This is largely due to Boise State being given the #3 seed
And Ohio State choking vs Michigan dropping them from the 5th or 6th seed to #8.
If the quarterfinals were ....
#1 Oregon vs #8 Notre Dame
#4 Clemson vs #5 Texas
#2 Georgia vs #7 Ohio State
#3 ASU vs #6 Penn State
There wouldn't be nearly as much gnashing of teeth over the seeding.
