Along this topic, we frequently go over our fire drill plan on how to exit the
home safely in case of fire, this includes each child's responsibility.

We tell them over and over, nobody in our family is to help the pets (cats) get out in case of a fire. Nobody goes back in for pets, nobody spends time looking for our pets. We just make sure the siblings make it out ok, and wait for mom & dad and the fire department.

This may be mean, but I don't want any of my children or my wife using any amount of time in a burning house worrying about pets/animals in case of fire. I tell them the cats can take care of themselves.

So to agree with WaffleCheese, People >>> Pets
