It's worth it to go through the monetization paperwork once you hit the minimums. One of my early videos, one that I
absolutely despise because I was so uncomfortable and awkward on camera and I had to do tons of cutting and finally voice-overs because I was so bad on film, was a review I did for a 12V portable oven.

It sat with only a couple hundred views for awhile, and then it just blew up. Now it has over 111,000 views and still routinely brings in $1-3 a month, and I just checked has given me $670 over time for that $19.99 cigarette lighter powered oven.

You never know which videos will blow up, but you want to be in a position to capitalize on it (even if it's $5 or $500) when it happens.

Just think, Youtube just pocketed around $300 on your most recent video. The next time one of your videos does this, you'll get to keep that. It's not a life changing amount of money, but $300 is still $300.
