In years past (1800s-early 1900s) there were a lot of tunes that many people knew and would affix different lyrics for. I’m guessing that’s what happened here. In my own mind it makes sense that this may have been common in the years before radio when songs were spread only on paper and in person. tOSU is a pretty old University, so makes even more sense that they’d use a tune people knew to affix their school song (not fight song) to.
