Would you give it to Boise State or Clemson or Arizona State instead?
Had SMU won, they would probably have received it. If BYU had won the Big 12 and they're only lost been to Arizona State, then they probably make a claim on it as well.
But otherwise, Georgia reasonably gets it by process of elimination.
