I can’t claim to be an expert. I can comfortably say a few things:
1. Two years ago it sure seemed like we had a great portal year. We finished 5-7 the next season. We reaped some of the benefits of that portal year during our year this year. But we brought in too many new players to successfully merge them into our system in 2023.

2. Last year we didn’t have as good a portal year. We finished 10-2 in the regular season.

3. The deadline for players to enter the portal doesn’t even hit until December 28th. We can sign players after that date. There’s a lot we don’t know yet. Both in terms of players we might lose and players we might pick up.

4. IMO, the portal should be viewed in terms of net gains and losses. Some teams will lose a lot of highly rated talent and bring in a lot of highly rated talent. If we focus just on what they gained, it will look awesome. But those teams may be in about the same place as they were to begin with. And they’ll have to get guys integrated into their team culture and systems.
