It comes down to recruiting. Because we struggle to land "good quality" RB's

we have to "ride" the "one" good quality back we have on the roster. But you're right that it'd be much better to have 2-3 quality backs that we could depend upon.

1996 was so special. Landing Jenkins (national headliner after 619 yd. single game) & McKenzie (no. 2 overall JUCO RB after Cory Dillon) was indeed special.
