It's A Bowling Ball All-American
Well, there was this one day...
Mrs Bowling Ball was needing a break from the kids one Sunday evening, so I took her on a drive to talk out her frustrations. I decided to drive to the Foothill Drive area (Salt Lake City) and I got the idea to drive by her Grandpa H’s old house. It had been years since I had driven to his home, but I remembered the general directions.

Mrs Bowling Ball soon asked if we were driving to Grandpa H’s house, and I said yes. She then said, there’s his street, so I turned left onto his street.

“Is that it?”, I asked. We knew the subsequent owners of the home and made some significant changes to it. Mrs Bowling Ball said, “no, it’s the next house up.” I slowed down, so we could look and reminisce. A woman was coming out of the home, and I didn’t want to look like a creepy stalker, so I started pulling forward.

Mrs Bowling Ball said, “wait, back up.” She rolled down the window and asked the woman if she was the owner of the home. The owner said yes and introduced herself as Leanne. Mrs Bowling Ball introduced herself and explained that her grandfather once lived in the home.

They chatted a little, then Leanne invited us to look around her home. I knew Mrs Bowling Ball would be thrilled to look around to see what they had done. We walked in and wow, it was really different than what we had remembered. Grandpa’s front office was gone, the step-down family room was no longer step-down, there were new walls where there hadn’t been walls before, and the vaulted ceiling was no longer a vaulted ceiling.

Leanne walked us into the front room, and we could see into the back yard where there was now a pool. We praised the updates all around the house, the expansion of the nice, new kitchen, the update of the bathroom which was now an office, and updated basement. Leanne gave us the full tour of every room in the house.

Leanne was amazed as we told her what everything used to be. We were amazed by all the changes.

After about a 30 min tour, we walked back out to the driveway. Mrs Bowling Ball commented that she remembered the driveway being a little steeper. “Everything seems bigger when you are little,” was Leanne’s reply. Mrs Bowling Ball then mentioned that the ‘castle’ house down the street had been remodeled and didn’t resemble a castle any longer. Leanne then said, “Oh, you mean the castle house up the street?” There are two castle houses? Neither Leanne nor Mrs Bowling Ball was aware of two different castle houses.

We thanked Leanne again for being so generous in showing us her home. We got into our car and I busted up laughing. “That wasn’t grandpa’s old home!” I said. “What? Yes it was,” Mrs Bowling Ball replied. We drove up the street, and at the next intersection, sure enough – there was the castle house. We laughed our guts out as we continued up the street and found Grandpa H’s actual old house, then laughed even harder until our stomachs hurt.

GPS probably would have been more helpful for us that day than it was for your son, BYU71.
