other strengths that he really can't be kept off the floor much, because he's going to improve with each minute he plays at this level. Terrific rebounder and long and quick defender.
He is an excellent shooter, but I cringe at some of the shots that he chooses to shoot. I'm talking about early or mid shot clock, one on one isolated dribbling, then dribbling back and hoisting up a long contested 3-pointer. As is often noted, this is called "settling", as in settling for a poor percentage shot that can be had at any time with his size. If it's late in the shot clock, yeah go ahead and pull up for one of these shots, but not early the clock when you've got several other teammates who are hot from 3, or you've got Fouss 1 on 1 inside, etc.
I'm not down on Catchings, just working through some frustration with those contested 3's that he shoots several times a game. I'm sure coaches are working with him on this and I expect continued improvement in shot selection as the season progresses.
