The continuity challenge is most pronounced on D.
Last year, we saw a less athletic squad highly bought into a scheme in which they worked very hard, and they executed it well. We asked way too much of Hall, who had to play too many minutes and be a star on both ends. At times, we simply couldn’t handle the opposition’s guard play b/c we lacked the individual defenders needed. But we weren’t often disoriented for prolonged periods.
This year, we have been far more susceptible on the perimeter, and we’re easier to isolate. I understand we need give these guys time—that includes both players and coaches. But with an extremely daunting Big12 schedule dead ahead, I’m approaching red alert status for our D. We need to get much, much better and fast or we’re getting run out of the gym with some regularity, especially on the road.
