You’re right in that we got killed by penetration more so than the open three this game. I’d have to go back and rewatch to decide how much that has to do with the style Ole Miss likes to play versus us taking away the three though.
It seemed to me that when they wanted to get a decent look from the three-point line they often got it.
I feel like we sometimes attempt to run opponents off of three point line and depend on help that does not always get there or does not rotate effectively enough. At other times when it does arrive, teams just make a tough shots ride over the top of us. That happened last night as well, notably on a key play when Richie played perfect defense and a smaller player just drilled a difficult shot off the drive.
This makes me think that our problems may be more in schematic than rooted in our athleticism, although not all of our lineups are created equal in this regard. We played some very vulnerable player combos on the defensive end last night while our best defender hardly saw the floor. I’m thinking those things may have to change.
