Now whether you like 5 hours of a musical probably depends on whether you like musicals. The reason it's longer than the stage version is because they are showing more character development than you get in a stage version. The book, as well, has much more material than what's in the stage version.

Consider Les Mis is a single play ... or a 6 hour BBC version. It just depends on how much depth you want to give it.
