The 4 highest get a bye. The 5th highest guarantees a spot. No other conference champion has a guaranteed spot. Hypothetically, the B1G, SEC, ACC, MWC (Boise), and AAC (army) champs could all be ranked higher than a byu or Colorado or other XII champion that might have 3 losses. It's a very possible situation
