In some ways, vaccines are a victim of their own success. They’ve wiped out
killer diseases so well, we don’t even realize the risk they once posed. 100 years ago, it was very common to lose at least one kid to a childhood disease. It was a devastating fact of life.

That’s gone, partly due to vaccines. But some of those diseases still exist in underdeveloped parts of the world. And if enough people buy in to the antivax crap, they will return.

With the flu and and Covid vaccines, the death risk (of death) is so low, it’s tough to gauge the risk reward of getting it. Even though for most adults, the evidence clearly shows getting either lowers risk.
