then up to above the roof. It is an ugly eyesore the way they did it and you can hear the motor outside one of our windows pretty loud. There was an option to go up to the roof inside the house and put the fan in the attic but any little sounds keeps me awake and I was afraid the humming of the motor would keep me up.

It does its job as we now get a reading below 1. However, we don't use our basement too often so I basically keep it turned off until I know someone is going to stay with us and be down there for an extended period of time.

Looking back, they did a rush job, I wasn't around to see how they were doing it, and I should have probably called them back to come up with a different plan. Don't let them rush you and make sure you get a detailed plan on how it will be installed.
