RE: Aaron Roderick is a great play designer
I’m a new user here and can’t remain quiet any longer without sharing my observations about the current state of BYU’s football offensive woes.

The Cougs have plenty of talent but they are grossly underachieving. Their inconsistency is glaring and the players only occasionally seem to be playing with intensity. That’s usually when they’re behind and the clock is winding down and they go into a 2-minute drill mode and in a do-or-die situation. Look how they won the OK State and Utah games. When the chips were down time running out they came through. They have the talent to do that. Why can’t AROD bring out that intensity consistently throughout the game instead of just at the end lately?

When I watch the college teams with high-powered offenses like Mississippi play, they have that intensity throughout their games. They frequently go into a hurry-up mode to throw the defense off and have them playing on their heels, wondering what’s coming at them on the next play. The offensive players are intense and having fun and controlling the tempo of the game. As a result they score a lot of points. They are high achievers and having a lot of fun doing it.

Why can’t AROD do likewise? The offense isn’t having much fun these days and is faltering. It’s extremely disappointing to see all of these really talented players fall so short of their potential. They’re playing mostly in the mode of reacting to the defense instead of putting the defense into a reactionary mode and keeping them there throughout the game.

Remember when Taysom Hill was our quarterback? They played with intensity, had a hurry-up offense which they would use at any time in a game. They were a high scoring team and they had a lot of fun out there. Coach Anae had that kind of an offense. AROD doesn’t appear to be capable of coming anywhere near duplicating that. As Chase Roberts said, they should be scoring 40 plus points every game.

What I’d really like to see is for Kalani lure Anae back to the Y. Since he left, he’s had high powered offenses at Virginia, Syracuse, and now he’s building the same at NC State. He should be here doing the same thing again for the Y.

The Y deserves to have an offense that’s on a par with their defense. They’re in the big leagues now. Time to have a big league offense. It doesn’t appear that they’ll ever get there with AROD. They’re in trouble now. I’ll be surprised if they can win out their next 3 games, really surprised. I hope they can but I’m highly doubtful because they can’t score like they should.
