former US citizens who were down there from the 60-70's hopeful that in the event of a nuclear war that they were in the safest place on the planet. One set of them had an "American" store that sold things like peanut butter and ketchup--items not normally found in Chile at the time.
I use the term "American" loosely because it bothered some Chileans that we called ourselves Americans because they said they were Americans too--just a different part of "America" (South America). I agreed they had a point.
