I get it. Kalani has been here since 2016 and hasn't delivered that "magical" season--the top 10 finish where we ended up in the playoffs or something.

He got to 1 loss in the regular season once. Then 2 losses. And he may do one of those again this year. But he didn't break through (just like Bronco didn't. Lavell struggled to win half his games vs. P4 squads, going 7-14 and 1 in bowls, but never mind that).

Of course, Kalani has had budgetary disadvantages vs. essentially every P4/P5 school he's faced--and gross disadvantages vs. some of them. Now those disadvantages are shrinking--soon we'll have an equal Big 12 share to put into play. With the increased budget BYU has received so far, Sitake assembled what looks to be a solid coaching staff. The results from year 1 to year 2 in the Big 12, with a single P4 recruiting class under our belts, improved dramatically.

Have we really seen Kalani's ceiling b/c did well but not incredibly well while navigating independence at a great financial disadvantage? Maybe. I don't know, but it also seems possible that the gettings just starting to get good.
