I think how the CCG goes matters
A 24-21 slugfest shouldn't change anything, but if Ohio State beats Wisconsin 59-0 in the CCG like in 2014, that loser SHOULD, and probably would, be punished.

The big 12 is very unlikely to be a 2-bid league. But for the conferences that are, the CCG is a punishment, is it not?

Only way is for undefeated byu to lose the CCG and get the #12. So the hypothetical from OP scenario doesn’t apply.

Historically the lower ranked team doesn’t drop much, if at all, if they lose the CCG
