If BYU is so great why are they stealing BYUI students? BYU's number of applicants has been dropping so I'm the last two or three years they have been accepting lots of students that previously would have gone to BYUI. I worked for CES which is why I'm aware of this.

Also, if you look at academic ratings BYU doesn't really do that much better than BYUI. And BYUI gets less than a fourth the funding from the Church that BYU gets. In terms of bang for the buck BYUI easily beats BYU.

The fact that BYU gets so much more funding brings to mind this scripture from 3 Nephi 6:12-13.

And the people began to be distinguished by ranks, according to their riches and their chances for learning; yea, some were ignorant because of their poverty, and others did receive great learning because of their riches. Some were lifted up in pride, and others were exceedingly humble;

Your better-than-attitude seems a bit like the attitude in that scripture. Maybe that is why some people, even quite a few Church members, have been offended and dislike BYU.
