I just got married to a nonmember who is sports educated but knew nothing of utes. I've bought a lot of BYU gear for her and she wears it around proudly in Southern California. But recently my stepFIL, a ute from the only place utes come from, came to visit and she was wearing a white BYU sweatshirt.

First thing he said was "Oh you're a zoob? I'm sorry."

She looked up at him and blinked and then looked at me.

I had to explain, in front of him, that utes are a bitter little brother type, always jealous, that "there are no true ute fans, there are only BYU haters" and that the best response to that is "Oh you're a ute? You are sorry."

He gave a nervous laugh and said hello, and we moved on to other topics. He's generally a nice guy but when it comes to BYU, he's definitely a hater/typical ute.
