This reminds me a something a habitual virtue signalling progressive friend of mine would say. If I point out that some behaviors are risky and lead to bad consequences (like a college girl dressing suggestively, getting drunk at a frat party, and making out with a stranger, only to wake up wondering what happened the night before), she says, "Wow. Blame the victim."
Pointing out the likely consequences of one's actions is not blaming the victim. The Ute fans acted poorly and should be blamed for doing so. The parents should not at all be surprised their kid had a bad experience. Both can be true.
