RalphWiggam Barkeep, another Mekong please
I wouldn't say he backed him. His first paragraph acknowledged Harlan was wrong
He said it was the heat of the moment, disappointed, shouldn't have said it but was caught up in the moment.

What I disagreed with is that he made the statement like something like don't we just talk it up to passion like we did Max Hall's comments and move on with our lives?

Except Utah didn't move on from Max Hall's comments. They didn't move on so much that just two years ago a Utah fan was selling max hall shirts. "Max Hall Hates Me" became a rallying cry for Utah fans for more than a decade after the game and the Utah media spent weeks discussing the comments, even though Max apologized the next day.

So no PK, we don't get to "move on." Harlan will take his lumps...justified lumps. He was wrong. Yes, he is passionate. Yes, he wanted to win. But he isn't a fan. He isn't even a player. Max was an unpaid college student at that point. You are making a million dollars a year and in charge of a major university's athletics. Shouldn't we expect more from you than we do from an 18-22 year old kid? You are a professional, acting in your professional capacity.

So let's not compare Max and Harlan. They aren't comparable. And let's also not pretend everyone just "moved on" after Max's comments. I would wager there were still Max Hall shirts at the game last night.
