This kind of pain is essentially unspeakable. We came really close twice, but
my precious daughter pulled through both occasions, and they were two unexpected, and completely unrelated things. And believe me, it was paper thin close on both occasions, not just a hospitalization or even an ICU scare. These were medivacs and sustained hospitalizations on the edge, with very hard discussions with docs about gut-wrenching decisions. And, thoughts about what life may be like on the other side if the outcome goes poorly. When that happens, you get to begin to feel the emotions of what parents may feel like if it does not turn out as we all hope. But, having felt that in even a small way, makes you really feel deeply and with profound compassion for those parents who go through this kind of unspeakable pain, and one that never dissipates.
