the reasons they gave for that (faulted for weak SOS despite blowing out their opponents) and how they favor Indiana over BYU this year (even weaker SOS but benefits from blowing out opponents) is insane. Take away the B1G label and the resumes between 2020 BYU and 2024 Indiana would be effectively the same but 2020 BYU was held down to #13 when they were 9-0 and the CFP rankings came out in 2020. Out of all the teams Indiana has played to get to 9-0 this season, none have yet to become bowl eligible. BYU has beaten 2 teams that are both bowl eligible and ranked.
Then there is the hypocrisy of how much higher Miami is ranked over BYU this year. They say Miami has an explosive offense and fun to watch despite BYU, again, having more ranked wins and the superior SOS.
They use the eye test when it favors their beloved big brands against weak SOS's but will use SOS as a fault, no matter the style points and eye candy when it comes to a non-SEC/B1G or non blue-blood brand like FSU, Clemson, and Miami. Such was the case for BYU in 2020.
Then they invert where they reward "good losses" because of a good SOS when it favors a team from SEC/B1G or other big brand team (FSU/Miami/Clemson), even if most wins don't come easy or pretty (not passing the eye test), but will fault an outside/non-blueblood brand that does have a good SOS but isn't racking up the style points for the sake of passing the "eye test". Such is the case for BYU this year.
