Here's my brutally honest take...and I say this as a dad w/ a daughter playing juco volleyball. There is way too much

money being put into college athletics and many kids playing college sports that have no business playing college sports.

Now, hear me out. I love to watch sports and especially watch my kids play sports as much as anybody, but my daughters team has seriously played other teams this year that were way worse than her HS club team. There are scholarships (albeit partial ones) for girls who were very middle of the pack on their own HS teams.

I'm just not sure we're doing the next generation favors by telling them they're good enough to play at the next level and pushing to make that happen just so they can keep playing. We really ought to be giving a lot more of that money for academic scholarships for kids who are paying their own way to get through college. It's ok to call it after HS and walk away feeling good about yourself and what you accomplished.

I have a feeling the changing landscape of college sports is going to drastically change in the coming years and some of it might not be a bad thing.
