While the statistics for really-high-end schools are pretty persuasive, it's very worth considering how elite STUDENTS do who choose other paths. Especially as undergrads. In that light, I see lots of wisdom in going somewhere affordable, familiar, or otherwise appealing as an undergrad. You can learn as much as you want, really, then go to a Grad school that paves a career path.
