This is just the symptom. The real problem is the conference and media power
brokers pay only lip service to fairness and the importance of outcomes. In reality what they care about is consolidating power and money from the many to the few. Most fans, myself included, just want consistent rules and rule enforcement. This gap between the propaganda of "fair play" versus meaningful fair play is becoming harder to reconcile with every passing year. The Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, and Oklahoma cabal needs some Clemson, FSU, UCLA, Florida, Miami (and a few other) teams to create drama and market their product but they don't want to share money or power. They will destroy college football (they are well on their way to creating a semi pro version of college football) while playing lip service to what college football once was. They will continue to consolidate. If the rest of the college football world could become united and rational in their assessment of where this is going, they could save the culture, the rivalries, the school spirit and the excitement that was traditional college football for so many years. We will never "take our ball and go home." At this juncture that would change the balance of power. We won't because we think that we can be part of the popular clique and that we can become a big dollar Ohio State. Won't happen.
