Eh, that's not how it works. As the national champs in 1984 we struggled to beat
a 6-5 team and barely beat mediocre Hawaii and Wyoming teams.
It isn't like some algorithm shoots out the results.
Happens all the time that motivated teams playing for their season and playing at home rise up and beat much better teams. That's part of what makes the game interesting.
