would be willing to bet that if byu finishes the season undefeated, they will be in the playoffs regardless of the conference championship result (assuming they don’t just get blown out). By that point, BYU would probably be in the top 7 and maybe even top 5, and I would be shocked if the committee dropped BYU all the way out of the playoffs if they were to lose to Iowa St, Kansas St, or Colorado.

The committee also has a precedence of not punishing teams as much for a conference championship loss over a regular season loss.
