I've told my college age kids, younger sisters, and daughters in law, when it comes to gift items (clothes in particular) around the holidays, etc., I'm shooting for something that resembles "current" without trying to look like I'm attempting to fit back into my undergrad years. I try to make similar choices in the vernacular I pick up and adopt (the answer is "very little" in terms of new slang I'll actually use. I'm trying to keep my understanding of said terms at least respectably current)
