And here are the schools that had Freshman drafted in the first round last year:
Connecticut - Won a National Title
Kentucky - 3 seed; lost in the 1st round
Baylor - 3 seed; lost in the 2nd round
Duke - 4 seed; lost in the Elite 8
Colorado - 10 seed; lost in the 2nd round
Pittsburgh - missed the NCAA tourney
Miami - missed the NCAA tourney
USC - missed the NCAA tourney

If we narrow the list to only lottery picks, then Miami, USC, Baylor, and Duke would be removed from this list. And Pittsburgh had Bub Carrington drafted at #14 which was BARELY in the lottery). That means Freshmen drafted in the top 10 came from UConn (won a NC), Kentucky (3 seed, lost in 1st round), and Colorado (10 seed, lost in 2nd round).

Also, of the teams above, the only 2 that had multiple freshman drafted in the 1st round were Kentucky (Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham) and Baylor (Ja'Kobe Walter, Yves Missi). Both were high seeds in the tourney, both had disappointing early exits. Schools like Connecticut and Duke had highly touted Freshman (Stephon Castle, Jared McCain), as well as high level Sophomores (Donovan Clingan, Kyle Filipowski), and a core of more experienced players around them.

What does this all mean? I have no clue. All I can say is that 1-and-done players can definitely be solid contributors to very good teams. But it is by no means a guarantee of a high level of success (or even a guarantee of making the NCAA tourney in the cases of Pitt, Miami, and USC this last season).
