While alluding that they have needed to hold him back for his own good. Not unique to LJ, but it seems to be a practice on Kalani’s teams to protect players from coming back too soon.
I get it from the player’s perspective. I’d want to play too and did play at less than 100% multiple times, as I’d guess most people have. Sometimes it was the best move for the team. It may have been better to have waited at others. Left up to me, I was playing if able. I get the same impressions listening to players, though they guard their words pretty well.
Holding players out longer to fully heal is understandable in the aftermath of the era where players have described being shot up and rushed back into service (not specifically at BYU, but not excluding BYU either).
