Impingement syndrome is so common in men 40+ who lift. One orthopedic surgeon told me to stop doing overhead lifts
after 45. I haven't taken it that far, but I'm very limited on incline dumbbell press and rarely do straight up military press now (I'm 51).

Rotator cuff strengthening exercises help a ton, but most guys think they are for weak people so they won't do them.
