BYU and it was an awesome experience. It's a great way to meet friends and people with similar interests.
Also, do you know what's better than being in the ROC after a touchdown and singing the fight song? Being in the band and playing the fight song as loud as you can because you're so hyped up with the ROC jumping and singing along.
I remember after the Taysom Texas game the players came up to the band at the end of the game and were asking us to play the fight song, so we did, and they were all singing and shouting and crying and it was super emotional and awesome. One of my favorite BYU football and musical performance memories ever.
We used to get a small scholarship, but I mostly did it for fun, for free football tickets, and if the team goes to a bowl game they usually take the band and so then you get to go on a free trip and do a bunch of fun things and go to and play music at the bowl game.
I also met my wife in marching band, so there's that. I guess it can be said that BYU football helped fulfill the mission of the church in that regard. 🙂
Playing in the band at BYU football games was so fun. It's awesome to be a part of the game day experience as someone helping to create that experience, and not just as a spectator.
