It’s basically throwing up a 50-50 ball knowing there are very low odds of negative consequences from the interception, as we saw here.
There was a lot more pressure on Retzlaff than expected on that play so he was forced into a tough throw, but you might as well still throw it in case something good happens.
It’s still higher odds that we score than that they score when you buck a ball toward the endzone. If you can have a play that gives our team a 3% chance of scoring, their team a 1% chance of scoring and a 95% chance of no consequences, you take that play every time.
