If he was running towards the endzone, I'd agree. But he was going the opposite
direction. He was also the only player around. The extra 2+ seconds to slow down, stop, grab the ball and get going could easily have given AZ a chance to knock the ball away.
The difference with the scoop and score was that BYU had like 5 guys around the ball, all running towards the endzone as they ran towards the loose ball.
