Our defensive player had an an angle, forcing him to the sideline. Instead of laying on a big hit at the sideline and risking a late hit out of bounds call, they just funneled him to a point at the sideline, then blocked him from going further downfield, but let him flow out of bounds untouched. Fifita got his yards from the scramble, but he didn't get 15 more.

I saw this multiple times yesterday in various NFL games. It appears to be a point of emphasis that coaches are making to their defenses, and our coaches appear to be coaching it up the same way.

So often those big hits either end up being a late hit out of bounds or a targeting call. It's better to just minimize the yards he got, but avoid the potential penalty from trying to blast him.
