You commit holding and PI when you’re getting beat by better players. BYU getting called for less if that shows our athletes are matching up well with the opponents; i.e., we haven’t needed to play out of our ordinary capabilities to get these wins. That could still happen against a better team but we weren’t “lucky” to win.
