I was talking to someone who climbed Everest about this
I pitched him on my idea of requiring teams to carry out so many pounds of trash to get their permits.
His take was that most of the trash there isn’t as removable as you think and lot of it is decades old.
Say there’s some 80s tent that got destroyed in the 80s. Well now the tattered parts are frozen into the ice and you’d have to chisel it out to be able to throw it away.
His take was it wouldn’t be as easy as just encouraging people to clean up.
