When they first announced the showrunners, I was excited because I knew of Payne's Church membership and he hasn't been
shy to talk about it at times. In the early days of the show coming together I remember thinking how his faith might impact his perspectives based on certain interviews he gave. I read many of those early interviews through the lens of his faith, since he frequently intertwined them. I recall seeing an article in LDS Living about him a while ago as well, before his involvement with RoP.

Nerd of the Rings is probably my favorite Lord of the Rings YouTuber. Of the purists out there, he's probably the most favorable to the show. He tends to focus on the positive, unlike Men of the West, who are the other most trusted LOTR purists out there but they often eviscerate the show. They LOVED E5 of S2, and highly praised it, but acknowledged the show went off the rails after that from a purist standpoint. Nerd of the Rings is MUCH kinder to the show than Men of the West. I generally agree with his assessments pretty consistently. He appreciates the series for what it is and looks for the good, while acknowledging the bad without focusing only on that.

The season finale was a hot mess, which is unfortunate because the series peaked with E5. That truly was an amazing episode. The writer for that episode hasn't written any other episodes...go figure...maybe they should hire him for every episode (he was a co-writer for one episode in S1). But the season finale was probably one of the weakest episodes of an otherwise good season. I think they need to make the seasons 10 episodes, get a little more breathing room for some of the stories.
