I’ve sometimes advocated for this kind of approach. Using a lockdown reliever to
get you through the top of the order to start the game, and then turning the ball over to someone who can eat some innings. And it gives the top of the order a different look on their second time through.

It’s unconventional and not without its drawbacks, but this may be a good time for it.

One challenge is that starters like to start with a clean inning (which you can do in the second) and to go through their normal pre-game routine. This approach would throw that off somewhat.
