Nope. The kicker stated that he did not alter the kick at all. It wasn’t like he
was attempting a 55-yard field goal or anything. Jorgensen and company bullied their way through to get that block.

Lots of media types (here’s looking at you, Bryant Gumbell) got all wound up about it, saying the refs had lost the game for UW. Not true at all. While it was an overly strict rule, it was a point of emphasis that season, and the refs had talked specifically about it with the team captains, including Jake Locker, before the game. It was a dumb rule, but it was called correctly.

Second, the kick itself… that thing had no chance of getting past the line of scrimmage. Third, even if they had converted it, it wouldn’t have necessarily been a win for Washington. The game would have gone into overtime.

I was there too. Got a few “F-BYUs” on the way back to the car that day.
