not to mention you either install solar panels all over your roof or the portable solar panels you'd store away would be barely enough to charge your phone.
My son has a dual fuel NG/gas portable unit that does an OK job. The nice thing is that the NG lines aren't usually interrupted in a storm so he has always had NG to run it constantly. Gas pumps won't pump with power out, so it can be impossible to get more gasoline for the generator.
Do you want it to run your whole house automatically? That's a LOT of money and takes up space on your property, plus you can't really take it with you to the next house. It's an investment that likely stays with the house. Portables leave when you do and can be used for other things when it's not an emergency, but there are limits to how much they can operate. Depending on the size of the house and the systems you want to operate, there are large enough portables to handle it.
In my son's neighborhood in TX, when the power goes out he can hear the big Generac style generators automatically start to fire up in the neighborhood, but those are many, many thousands of dollars.
