For the 2022 model year, Toyota completely eliminated their old, bulletproof V8 engine and replaced it with a V6 twin-turbo engine meant to compete directly with Ford's 3.5L ecoboost engine.
The result has been disaster—scores of catastrophic engine failures under 30k miles, leading to a complete engine recall (as in, Toyota is replacing the entire engine) for nearly 100k Tundras. All 2022s and most 2023s have been recalled so far, with insiders leaking that a recall of 2024s is coming soon. Do just a little bit of research on this, and you'll see that this engine has been a disaster, far worse than any GM product I can remember.
This same powertrain is in the new Sequoia.
Some people are claiming that Toyota has figured things out now and that this engine is finally reliable, but I'm not so sure. And I certainly wouldn't buy one for several more years, until people have had the late 2024s, 25s, etc. long enough to be confident that they can go to 30k or 40k miles without failing.
