I recommend "The Mamur Zapt" series and the "Vish Puri" series.

The Mamur Zapt is a historical mystery series set in Colonial Egypt, following the Welsh head of the Egyptian secret police, written by Michael Pearce.

Vish Puri is a contemporary Indian mystery series, following an Indian Private Investigator in Delhi.

I guess I am showing some of my preferences, but I enjoy both quite a bit.
