A balloon took down the South end zone
goal post in the 70’s. (Bent it so bad it couldn’t be used the rest of the game). It was the rivalry game. I was there. Pretty bizarre. Balloons weren’t allowed close to the stadium after that incident.
It was anchored on the SE parking lot. A big South wind came up and tore it loose from its ropes and blew it into the goal post. (There were no south end zone seats to stop it then. Just a few high school like bleachers where the band sat)
Another incident happened in the 80’s when Utah upset BYU at Cougar Stadium. Ute players were celebrating and some started to try to tear down the north goalpost. BYU players/security had to stop them from doing it.
