I mean, even in the BCS, there was this 1 in a 100 million shot your team could
somehow get there if they won all their games 100-0 and got ranked in the top 2, right?
A lock out of teams that gives you zero chance is different even if the odds are essentially the same. Zero and "almost zero" aren't the same at least in fan perspectives...
